  8. astationaryjew answered: It varies semester by semester for me, but it has never, ever felt like I got enough done.
  9. labratintraining answered: All the hours, never enoough, and only because I make it so. I have bad time managment skills though….
  10. acmesalesrep answered: Sadly, I’m expecting a lot of answers along the lines of “Too many; no; and hell, no.”
  11. la-animaux answered: I worked 40-60 hours per week in grad school (Social Psychology). It was never enough. I could achieve w/l balance sometimes, but rarely.
  12. jakke answered: As in, paid work? I just do TAing (10-12 hours a week). Any more and I probably would be totally unable to do any research.

  14. thewhywhygirl said: One of my profs said that we should have a 24-hour abstinence from work every week. And get a dedicated and supportive partner. The balance will always be skewed towards work, but those two things will help keep you sane and grounded.
  15. thewhywhygirl answered: Nothing is ever enough. At least that’s the message I get. My depression/anxiety attacks means I work a lot less than most people.
  16. fdfaumders answered: I just became ABD, Teaching work: 20 hrs/wk, probably 30/wk my work, definitely not enough and work is life now. Took me 4 yrs to realize.
  17. lemdi answered: G does 40 hours, but it’s his academic research on a grant so I don’t know how it works out in comparison to if he did them separately.
  18. frownheights said: Do you mean work on school work or work at a job? Because I do both, and have no life, and everything is terrible.
  19. gradschoolroundtwo answered: Part-time (2 nights/week of class) program, and approximately 30 hours per week of graduate assistant jobs. It takes effort.
  20. ipomoeaandthestarstealers said: all of them, no, no. but i’m just doing my master’s and i have a kid aka unpaid job.
  21. sarahmcnamara answered: full-time job, full-time program that meets one wkd/mo. No balance, not great at staying on schedule. Then again, I’m in my 1st semester
  22. thelittlemermaid answered: 40-50 hours/week, minimum, for 2 courses, TA, exec job. 15ish hours for editing job. Working hard for life balance but always … dubious.

  25. bendawson answered: Life? I’m working about 60 hours a week and only taking one course and it’s still miserable.
  26. ramou said: I work 40-45ish hours/week and used to take 2 classes/semester and had NO work/life balance and no one ever saw me. Now I just have my thesis left and feel like I have it figured out a little bit.
  27. chapel-eyes-odd answered: 12+ hrs on a journal, 40-50 on my thesis, 5-10 on other writing; no; lolwut
  28. womanofkleenex said: I’ve gotten the impression grad students in the sciences are expected to work much longer hours, though — then again, they’re also better funded. Grass is always greener.
  29. womanofkleenex answered: How many hours a week I work varies wildlly. I’d say it’s usually at least 40 plus 5-10 of post-work work. I feel pretty balanced now.
  30. sasstacular answered: i work 38 hours per week but only have 2 classes. sometimes it’s hard. but i think i keep a decent balance. mainly bc i procrastinate haha
  31. helloyouhellome answered: I work 40 hrs a week and attend grad school full time. No life balance, NONE.
  32. nounsandbooks answered: I work 20/week, I can just about handle it, I have a decent work-life balance that could easily tip one way or another if I’m careless.
